The Laboratory Theater of Florida, located on the traditional land of the Seminole and Taino peoples, is committed to creating an environment in which diverse identities, cultures, and ideas are welcomed and represented on and off our stage. LTF embraces diversity in all its forms. The inclusion of differences such as ability, age, size, background, beliefs, ethnicity, gender, gender expression, race, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, and all other identities represented across our team, board, artists, and audiences enrich us and help to better serve our SWFL community.
Our artistic mission is directly tied to the ethical considerations of our generation: to address issues of equality and equity in our country, and thus, our own lives. LTF is committed to the continued growth of the diversity of work we do on and off our stage. We are committed to developing our own and presenting the most outstanding contemporary plays we can, offering mentoring and observership opportunities, audience enrichment, and more.
The health of LTF depends upon the existence of a culture of respect and connection between our artists, staff, and audience. Every artist and audience member brings their own uniqueness to the theatrical experience – their history, their story, their personal truths, traumas, and joys. Theater allows us to explore our experiences in a communion between artists and audience, to explore what it means to be human – where we came from, where we are, where we are going – and how, together, we can build a better humanity. LTF will continue to invest in sustained efforts to cultivate long-term, authentic relationships with current and prospective audiences and our wider SWFL community, including young people who seek a place for belonging and expression. We are committed to promoting meaningful and respectful discourse, with consideration of diverse perspectives.
Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion are essential in all activities of Lab Theater. Our commitment is an ongoing process that embraces participation from everyone in the LTF community – artists, team, board, audience, and volunteers. We will continue the conversation. We will continue to listen. We will learn and we will adapt as we grow, with a goal to move ourselves and our community forward.
